Artist Spotlight: Tāne Reweti and the Sound of Hauraki

·By Piripi Ngāti

Local musician Tāne Reweti has been crafting his signature blend of Māori fusion for over a decade. We sat down with him to talk about his journey and upcoming release.

If you've tuned in to Ngāiwi FM over the past few years, you've almost certainly heard the music of Tāne Reweti. His warm, resonant voice and distinctive guitar work have become a staple of our programming — and for good reason.

A Musical Journey Rooted in Tikanga

Tāne grew up in a household where waiata was a daily practice, not just a special occasion. 'Music was how we communicated as a whānau,' he tells us. 'It carried the stories, the emotions — everything that words alone couldn't hold.'

The New Album

His third studio album, due for release later this year, promises to be his most ambitious work yet. Drawing on kōrero from elders across the Hauraki rohe, the album weaves together traditional waiata with contemporary composition in a way that feels both timeless and utterly fresh.
